My Dog Had Fleas — Here’s Exactly How I Beat the Infestation (Naturally)

Let me just say this: if your dog has fleas, your house has fleas too.

And if you only treat the dog, you’re going to be chasing your tail for weeks.

That’s what I learned when I found flea bites on me, and my dog Shakira was scratching like she owed someone money. The fleas were everywhere—on her, on the couch, in the bed, probably planning a summer block party in the carpet.

Here’s what I did to finally beat them—without a single drop of poison:

Step 1: Treat the Environment First

Before touching the dog, I handled the real problem: the environment.

· Sprayed the entire yard with a natural pest spray, especially shady spots and areas where Shakira loves to roll.

· Washed every towel, rug, dog bed, and blanket in hot water.

· Vacuumed the entire house like I was training for the Olympics.

· Sprayed down couches, rugs, corners, and baseboards with Home Shield to kill flea eggs and larvae before they could hatch.

Step 2: Now, the Dog

Once the space was clean, I brought Shakira inside and gave her a full flea bath using our Healing Dog Shampoo. You could actually see fleas falling off in the tub. She stopped scratching instantly. And she smelled like a dog who just got back from a 5-star spa.

Step 3: Keep Them Off With Daily Spray

After the bath, I started using Dog Shield spray every 1–2 days. It repels fleas before they bite and smells like cedar and lavender—not chemicals.

It takes a couple of minutes, and she actually enjoys it. No more oily necks. No more sticky coats.

Worth It

The whole process took a few days, but now we’re flea-free, chemical-free, and stress-free.

If I had just sprayed her and called it a day? We’d be right back where we started.

So take it from me: kill the eggs, clean the house, THEN treat the dog. It’s a process, but it works—and your future self (and your dog) will thank you.
